CAKAMUN’19 – 10 Questions & 10 Answers

 

  1. When and where will the CAKAMUN’19 happen?

The conference will be held between December 19th and 22nd, 2019. It will be held in the Cakabey Private School in Izmir. 

  1. How much is the fee for the conference?

The fees range from 50 to 150 Turkish lira depending on the position and time participants apply. We strongly recommend delegates to they take advantage of the amazing Early Bird deal. 

  1. How many participants will there be at the CAKAMUN’19?

It is not possible to give an exact number at the moment, but we expect around 250 delegates, 50 academic team and 50 staff members to be there.

  1. How long will the conference last?

The conference will last four days. On Thursday the 19th, the conference will run from 12:30 to 18:30. For the other three days, it will run from 9:00 to 17:30.

  1. Is shuttle service provided?

Yes, we will be providing a shuttle service. For further details please refer to our FAT page at cakabeymun.com/FAT.

  1. Is accommodation included in the fee?

While accommodation is not included in the fee, we are fortunate to have partnered with Best Western Premier to give participants more affordable and high-quality accommodation.

  1. To what airport should I fly to when coming to CAKAMUN’19?

When travelling to CAKAMUN, participants will land in Izmir Adnan Menderes airport. From there, public transportation will easily take the participants to our designated hotel. They also have the option to stay at their individually preferred accommodation location instead.

  1. What are the committees and agenda?

We will have 10 committees,

Our first Committee: UN Environment Programme

The UN Environment Programme is a crucial division under the United Nations. Its focus is on combating the current climate crises and building frameworks towards sustainability.

Topics to be discussed:

  1. Promoting and facilitating a waste-free life
  2. Adapting to climate change and climate disasters

Our second committee: GA3 – Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee

This committee tackles issues regarding global human relations and rights that are interconnected with social and political events and histories. As humanitarian crises are a large part of our world’s concerns, the discussions and resolutions that come from this committee are crucial.

Topics to be discussed:

  1. Alleviating food crises with a focus on political pressure and the equal distribution of wealth.
  2. Equalizing the right to exercise personal freedoms around the globe.

 

Our third committee: Special Summit on Ethics of Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. While artificial intelligence currently benefits humanity, it comes with its own risks. In the long term, an important question is what will happen if the quest for strong AI succeeds and an AI system becomes better than humans in all cognitive tasks.

 

Topics to be discussed:

  1. The importance of ethics in governing artificial intelligence
  2. The equity of algorithms

 

Our fourth committee: Near Futuristic Organization of Islamic Cooperation

As the “collective voice of the Muslim world”, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation serves to protect the vital interests of Muslims and to work for the settlement of conflicts involving the Member States. The year is 2034 and the Member States have gathered for a very important discussion: how will the Member States unify their education systems?

Topic to be discussed:

Declaration of vision and guidelines for the new education system for the Member States

Our fifth committee:  North Atlantic Treaty Organization

NATO is an organization consisting of 29 Western member nations with the purpose of uniting against external military attacks and increasing defensive strength.

Our sixth committee: International Olympics Committee – 140th Session

Established in 1982 in Paris, the International Olympics Committee is responsible for choosing the host city for the Olympics. As the 140th Session of the committee draws soon, members must decide on the host city for the 2032 Summer Olympics.

Our seventh committee: Last Monarch of Ethiopia: Haile Selassie

From liberating his country from exile to being one of the founding members of the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement and Organization of African Unity, Haile Selassie is one of the most remarkable names in the post World War II era. Now he must elevate his country and fulfil his monarch duties to the best of his abilities.

  1. Shifting from a feudal society to a modern society
  2. Resolving religious conflicts in the country

Our eighth committee: Founding of Las Vegas, 1929

The state of Nevada is on the brink of change and delegates hold the strings of fate in their hands. The year is 1929: the construction of the Hoover Dam has brought many workers along with many corresponding issues. Navigate through the probation period, legal issues and underground crime to make the state glorious.

  1. The influx of labour force
  2. State laws in Nevada
  3. Infrastructure development and demographic investment in Las Vegas

Our ninth committee: Game of Thrones

Who will reign over the Seven Kingdoms? Choose your king: Joffrey Baratheon, Stannis Baratheon, Renly Baratheon, Robb Stark, or Balon Greyjoy.

Our tenth committee: Joint Crisis Cabinet – Rule of Catherine the Great

In this crossroads of history, the two major empires are now facing each other. One that has started to fall under weak administration despite its strong foundation, the other just starting to become one of the biggest forces.

Topics to be Discussed:

This is a joint crisis cabinet: Delegates are to ensure their cabinet weathers historical issues through new approaches and changes history as they see fit.
