How to Be Successful in Crisis Committees by Can KARACA

Sometimes, you may be a chair or delegate in crisis committees. And you may be panicked or excited because of the committee. You start to think about being successful and also if this committee is a JCC, exactly you want to win the war. So, now I am going to try to help you with crisis committees.

1. First Part: Prepare Yourself for the Committee

Before the conference, exactly, the executive board send your allocation and publish the study guide. When your allocation comes, firstly you should do research upon the committee via the internet or books. In my opinion, for the first step, try to find books or articles according to your allocation. After that do research. For the research which will be done via the internet, firstly open your study guide and read it carefully. After that take note of the bibliography and start to do research by searching the websites that noted in the bibliography. Watch the programs according to the committee and if you do not know how to write directive, do research to learn it. But by reading this article, you don’t have to spend so much time on it.

2.Second Step: How to Write a Directive

The directive is the main key to the crisis committees. If you want to take action in the committee, you should be writing directives, efficiently. For an efficient directive, there are 3 steps: The first step is, making a plan on your mind. Make your plan, plan every step one by one and use Wh Questions. ( When, What, Why, Where, Which, Whom, Whose, etc.) After the planning step, the documentation step comes. In this step, you should follow the way step by step. Consider the Wh Questions during the documentation and try to detail your directive because if you don’t detail your directive it may be not granted. The last step is, checking part. After you finish your directive, read it once more and try to detect detail gaps. Fix it and then you may send it.

3. Third Part: Oh no, we have a crisis!

Exactly, in the crisis committees, crisis team or your secretariat gives you crises to keep forward the committee. When the crisis team gives crisis you shouldn’t be panicked. Keep calm and try to think. Consider the situation and make plans upon your authority. During crisis situations, try to work as the whole committee, not personally. If you work as a team, you may solve the problem in a short time but if you don’t, during the time you will be trying to solve the problem, you may have more crises.

4.Fourth Part: War is coming!

If you are in a crisis committee related to the war, at least you will face with the war. To be ready when the war comes, you should be searched upon the geography and the war tactics that were used in history. And you should be mixing them while writing your war plans. You should consider the attack way of your enemy, you should have information from the opposite side and you should separate your army efficiently. 5.Fifth Part: Top Secret huh?! Sometimes you want to do something secretly. Then, in charge of these situations, there is a type of that is named as top secret. First of all, I would like to state that, you should not use them against your cabinet or committee. Maybe you want to have a secret meeting, assassinate your enemy or have information from the opposite side. For them, you should be answering to whole Wh Questions. Since if you don’t do this, your all plans may be failed.

6. Sixth Part: Conclusion

As I wrote, the crisis committees may be complicated but, if you want to experience the tension and crisis, you should do your research efficiently and you should be ready. After that, every step will come easy to you.
